to go or not to go apple picking...

...that is the question.

it turns out my compter isn't worth fixing. re-installing windows didn't work. i definitely need a new computer and am kinda torn: should i get another shiny new PC, or is it time to go "apple picking"? i'm in the process of weighing pros and cons of each. yesterday my sister and i talked about how viruses, spyware and other security issues seem so much worse with windows, so that alone tips the scales in favor of getting this spiffy new imac G5. what do you think? if i get it, i could be the kid w/ the coolest computer on the block, and that's gotta count for something, no?

for now, my computer access is at work, and at the university (where i am now). campus was a zoo yesterday b/c it was the last home football game (vs. miami). hence, it was also time for the notorious and controversial fourth year fifth.

students here are bright-- among the top in the nation. it's a well publicized fact that they study hard...and they party hard. the university is steeped in tradition by default of its historic beginnings. but one of more assinine "traditions" that evolved over the years is the "4th-year 5th", where seniors (called "4th years" here) attempt to drink a 5th of liquor at the last home football game. during grad school here, there was a well known tragedy where a girl, named leslie baltz, drank a fifth, then tumbled down a steep wooden stairwell and died on the spot from head injuries. since then, her parents, and university administrators have been frantically trying to end the assinine 4th year 5th. i think there's definitely more awareness now about the dangers of attempting a 5th, and precautions that students need to take, BUT...from the looks of things yesterday, administrators have their work cut out for them. stumbling frat boys galore. heh!

for now, i'm off to have an italian dinner and a glass of red wine. sunday nights like this give me the blues, b/c another super-busy week awaits. another overnight work trip awaits. too many "to do's". and...and...

more as it happens...
