"there were lacerations running down my face"...

i slept decadently late this morning-- 11:15am, baby! i'm at my parents' this weekend since yesterday was dad's birthday. he loved the gift i bought him, and we took him to a thai restaurant last night. i brought along a pretty cake with blue and yellow flowers. i bought a store-bought cake b/c i was too tired to bake. however, i've promised to bake him a decadent chocolate cake from scratch this weekend, once i'm rested up. this past week ran me into the ground.

last night, my mom and i stayed up late having the type of quality mother-daughter chat i cherish. we got around to talking about george w. bush's linguistic challenges and continuous stream of verbal mistakes. and she told me about an article she read in the washington post back in 2000.

apparently, while bush was partying his way through yale, he actually had to sit down and write a paper. in his paper, he wanted to describe a situation where tears were running down his face. however, he decided to try to impress his professor and try to use fancier words. unfortunately, it backfired in a big way. he pulled out a thesaurus and noticed that a synonym for "tears" was "lacerations". unaware that lacerations were a synonym for a different type of tears than he was referring to, george w. bush wrote in his paper:

"...and there were lacerations running down my face..."
haha. apparently, the professor wasn't impressed. he didn't make a single comment on the paper, but only marked it with a bold, dark red "F".

we'll i'm signing off since i've got things to do and places to be. later!
