celebrating a healthy lifestyle despite bad coffee [weekend entry #2]

yesterday was *awesome*--even if i was exposed to a wee bit too much sunshine, and am feeling the ill-effects today. uv & i aren't friends. oh yes, i appreciate clear days w/ azure-blue skies. but i can only enjoy it if theres some quality shade to sit in. dont ask me to dine outdoors unless were under a tent or our table has an umbrella. then, we can kick back with mojitos or margaritas. bring on the good food and let the fun begin!

first, i ventured downtown to the city farmers market and came away with an armful of beautiful shiny eggplants, crisp first-of-the-season apples, and colorful sweet banana peppers. the variety of produce really is amazing. the saturday market runs through october, and im always sad when it ends. i think im a pretty healthy eater for the most part, but damn if its not easier to be that way in the summer, when fresh produce abounds! (sweet berries? you got em! succulent melons? your wish is my command! tender green asapargus? coming right up)! but in winter, save for citrus, only mealy apples and limp greens line grocery store shelves. beh. that fuels a desire for potatoes and squash. cold weather and darkness make me want to hibernate and eat mashed potatoes. well, i guess thats not SO bad, is it?

my next stop: the 8th annual Vegetarian Festival. it's held every september, and is absolutely worth attending! there were countless vendors and exhibitors with great food, including free sample plates from Whole Foods. i think i gorged myself on all sorts of delicious and healthy things. there were also many healthy living exhibitor booths featuring samples of organic soaps and natural toothpastes, vitamins and supplements, a five-element acupuncturist, a yoga studio, a massage therapist, a chiropractor, cookbooks, health-related books and literature, and so much more. i left feeling pretty euphoric. if that doesnt count as healthy, what does? hope it helps me get through this week, and esp. tomorrow:

im usually off on mondays, but not when there are monthly staff meetings. ugh. "STAFF MEETINGS = TIME DRAIN + BAD COFFEE". what can be said in one hour drags on for three, hence the need for bad coffee. even coffee snobs like myself must give in...
