downtime...

so i got some unexpected but welcome down-time last night. who said it was un-cool to stay in on a friday night?!? i was originally going to go out for drinks, gossip, and people-watching last night, but that fell through b/c cindy had to leave for michigan yesterday morning. she's spending the weekend w/ her ailing grandmother, who's had a mysterious year-long, festering E-coli infection. but now, with anemia and sky-high blood calcium levels, the signs all point to cancer, though no one can pinpoint where. her family is from bay city, which is right on lake huron (and is, incidentally, where madonna grew up). it's an 11-hour drive from here. it was extra sweet of daisy (her housemate) to agree to accompany her and turn it into a girly-road trip, complete w/ mix cd's, snacks and gossip along the way. i dont know daisy that well yet, but from what i do know, shes awesome like that! hopefully she makes things a little more bearable for cindy.

speaking of downtime, my wireless phone service has been down. last night i spent 75 fucking minutes talking to sprint customer service, who tried in vain to re-program my cell phone several times. today i'll visit the sprint store for more troubleshooting. other than that, a beautiful day is on tap, so i'll enjoy it before hurricane jeanne comes a-knockin' mid-week. i'm bummed that i need to go to a funeral for a co-worker's relative on monday. that gets me down, for sure. what do you say to a person in times like this, w/o feeling awkward?

i'm esp. glad to get away from work this weekend (clean air). yesterday, the bioterrorist, said she was looking for an old bottle of antibiotics at home to cure her cough. why does she have leftover antibiotics!? aren't you supposed to finish the entire bottle even after you think you're well? that's why she's a walking petri-dish--she's constantly sick. people like that make drug-resistant pathogens proliferate. plus, her cough is probably viral and must run its course. she's better off recovering with tea, honey, lozenges and soup.

on thursday night, someone mysteriously came to my diary with a "blocked IP/blocked referrer", according to my stats. it was unnerving b/c i'd never seen that before. has anyone else seen this on their sitemeter/statcounter? should i be worried? if it's one of you buddy list friends, i'll breathe easy. if not, i don't know. not sure what's up with that, but, whatever. more later.
