Unravel Me

mint juleps, music of the night, & meg ryan hair

2005-01-19
*[written yesterday. then d-land failed. hope it shows up now]*
it snowed but alas, no snow-day. i got spoiled by my 4-day weekend, which, ironically, started with a confederate holiday, then ended in celebration of MLK. lest you think i sat around like a southern belle drinking mint juleps* on friday, let me recount my weekend in five parts:

1) first off, i'm sporting a new hairdo. i like it, but i'm not sure how to best describe it. i guess maybe the closest example i can give is that it's like meg ryan's hair in the photo below. except, obviously, i'm not blonde. and, my stylist gave me shorter layers in the back. now take a peek, and try to picture me if you can:

2) while i'm a rosemary-mint shampoo woman at heart, ive decided that aveda's "Pure Abundance Volumizing Shampoo" gets five stars from me. (thanks to a hot tip from both my stylist, and my mom).

3) i saw andrew lloyd webber's the phantom of the opera on its opening day here. the theater was jam-packed. (great movie, and fantastic music)! oh, how i love the phantom! i first saw it in 10th grade, and it heightened my appreciation for musical theater and the performing arts. the phantom is one of those performances that can somehow make the stage or screen magically come alive. this weekend, it did just that. cindy had also seen the phantom on stage as a child in detroit, where it was performed by a theater group from toronto. she pointed out that this movie succeeded at capturing many fine visual details of the story that can be harder to convey via stage acting. that's true.

4) cindy, daisy and i hung out on saturday for some long-overdue girl-time. it was fun and much-needed. why is it that, the older you get, the harder it gets to make and cultivate new friendships? we actually talked about it openly for the first time over drinks and pizza. better yet, we vowed to remedy that and tentatively plan some fun times ahead: board game night, maybe a book club, road trips, bowling, some parties, or just a regular time to meet for drinks, dinner, or brunch. more on that another time

5) i obliged my inner bath-products junkie at bath & body works, b/c of their semi-annual sale! funny, i dont normally go for fruity stuff. but on monday, I came away with green apple bath gel, mango mandarin soap (smells like the body shops satsuma products), and lemon body cream. the key is that these scents are all pretty subtle. meyer lemon is one of the best scents in the world. it lifts my mood and just smells so freshso clean.

thats it for now! time to pick up my car from bob's wheel alignment.

*PS: i've actually never tried a mint julep. i'm curious. but wait, shucks, it's got whiskey in it--yuck. any opinions?
