spit or swallow. what kind of girl am i?

i left work early today due to some... um... er... "stomach woes", which i strongly suspect are from swallowing some pool water when i went swimming the other day (mon). unfortunately, my lane partner (a.k.a. "mr. splashy") swam fast, but with bad, choppy form. he transformed the pool into stormy high seas. and at every flip turn, both of his legs rose straight out of the water and his feet came apart, creating a whoosh of water that splashed the pool deck like a tidal wave. i might as well have been trying to do laps at a six flags water park.

since (july), i've had trouble fully turning my neck. it's improving, but i can still only breathe to one side while swimming, so each time i came up for air on monday, i instead gulped mouthfuls of water, plus some up my nose, thanks to "mr. splashy". so "spit vs. swallow" became 100% swallow. god only knows what was in the pool water!

hmm...despite my desire to do a triathlon someday, open-water swimming kinda scares me. it's partly fear of the unknown, but also fear of splashing and clawing by fellow participants and of course, mouthfuls of murky lake water. i say this despite the fact that swimming is one of my strengths--i swam in h.s., i'm still fairly strong & fast, and i can swim a 1/2 mile in 14 minutes...BUT, that's *only* indoors! when my sister lived in california, she dated someone who did the escape from alcatraz tri. the open water was the most challenging part. he got a coach to train him for it. maybe i'll use a coach, too!

my last "open-water swim" was when i was crazy and 20 and lived in massachusetts. it was a drunken night-time skinny dip w/ friends in one of two lakes right by where i lived! (nasty water)! but i'll tell that story another time... for now, i'll leave you with this: do you know what kind of girl i am?
