Unravel Me

all work, no play? screw that!

all work, no play? screw that!

is life really all work and no play? sometimes. but tonight i'm throwing all that out the window. i arrived in richmond yesterday afternoon and am here for a two-day caseload management training for new counselors. last week was my six-month anniversary on the job, and so far i haven't burned out...(knock on wood)!

anyway, we got out of training early so i'm catching up on some diaries here at the hotel before heading back out this evening. we're going down to shockoe slip (the touristy/historical part of richmond). i've lived in this state all my life except for the four years i lived up in massachusetts for school. and yet, i'm not really that familiar with richmond. i think it's because i've always headed up to DC for shopping, etc. so exploring richmond this evening should be fun--and scenic, too, because it's along the james river.

what's on tap for tonight? a microbrewery, for one. unfortunately my co-worker, ellen, has already told everyone to watch out for me as the lightweight. surely she jests! she's only seen me a couple times where wine was involved. i thought i left the low tolerance reputation behind when i graduated from college, but apparently, i have not. oh well, i'm fine with that, and it's more economical in the end...

our designated driver is jason (who is also attending this training). he's mormon, so something told me he'd be a good choice for a designated driver. (like...perhaps he doesn't drink alcohol)? he's totally cool, and very outgoing and extraverted, so i don't think he'll be the type to feel uncomfortable in an environment where everyone else is buzzed.

and after dinner and beer? swimming. jason, and another guy i met, andrew, plan to meet at the hotel pool later on to burn off some calories.

and after that? i'm very run-down and tired, so i'm sure i'll sleep like a log tonight. whether life is all work and no play, or all play and no work, in the end, i'm sure to be very, very tired.

more as it happens...
