the ruined run; a new sound...

remember the sports bra i mentioned in yesterday's entry? yeah you know, the sexy one? well, i found it. buried in a pile of folded towels. i think it got mixed up in there after i did laundry. anyway, after all the trouble i went through to find it, i ended up wearing the boring nike bra for yesterday afternoon's run.

it was sunny and 82 degrees out yesterday, so my run should have been wonderful...just like summer. but it wasn't good at all. far from it. it was totally ruined--because i threw up while i was out running. you ask why? no. not because i was finishing some grueling x-country race or ultra strenuous workout. nope.

my run was ruined by roadkill. this was no tiny dead squirrel. it was a newly flattened skunk in the road. i was so grossed out. it was so disgusting and more than anything, the smell overwhelmed me. i think you get the lovely picture. needless to say, i cut the run short and came home.

on another front, i'm starting to realize that i learn something new just about every day by reading diaries out here:

over the past week or two what i've concluded is that the accordion must be the instrument of choice among canadians. i've read three or four diaries (all canadian writers) who have recently mentioned or shown pictures of accordions. i guess all of the cool canadian kids are playing them now.

see, i think i want to learn to play a new instrument. i'm not sure what it should be yet. i was never a band geek in high school. but i've played the piano since i was six, and took lessons through 10th grade. i'm an able, competent player, but don't play seriously, though...only for my own fun. i'm shy about performing. but left alone, i play to relieve stress. i can pound out some mean nocturnes, angry sonatas, and pretty etudes.

anyway, i'm not sure what instrument to take up. drums? maybe. the saxophone? a possibility. a stringed instrument like the guitar? the violin? the cello? all maybes. the accordion? also a maybe.

....i'm LOL right now thinking about piano lessons when i was little. i actually have a good ear for music, and stuff like sight-reading comes naturally to me. but it used to annoy my piano teacher to no end because i kept playing by ear (and quite well, too) instead of reading the notes. it wasn't that i couldn't read sheet music. i could. but i was more of an intuitive player and had to be reigned in.

anyway....i'm looking for a new sound.

so feel free to recommend something to me. i'm leaning towards something that sounds pretty and is relatively easy to learn, but also fun.
