no comment; blogs & 9 parts of desire

no comment, blogs, and nine parts of desire....

switching gears from the last entry on hand-preference....it seems like every single diary i've read over the past month or so has contained comments about war, accounts of peace marches, support for the troops, and so on. despite having my own views on the matter, i vowed last month that there would be no comment from yours truly. there's no place for it here. mum's the word.

but to read a first-hand account of what's happening in iraq, go see this blog . along those lines, if you want to see an interesting diary that chronicles the life and thoughts of a muslim woman, check out this blog, entitled veiled4allah . i'm not sure if that link will work, but if not, you can link to it through the first blog (on the left of the page, under "daily blogs", click on "al-muhajabah's blog").

i just stumbled across these blogs tonight. the latter is interesting, given that i'm currently reading a book entitled "nine parts of desire--the hidden world of islamic woman", by geraldine brooks.

i first heard about this book a few years ago from my former student/client, who was doing a thesis on islamic woman. but the person who prompted me to read this fascinating, provocative book was a friend of mine who studied int'l relations and took a course on women in the middle east, where it was a required reading.

so my latest book recommendation is: "nine parts of desire: the hidden world of islamic women", by geraldine brooks. definitely worth reading!
