movie critiques: give me an A!
my latest image: neon signs.
okay, so i deleted my previous entry b/c it was more a train-of-thought/thinking aloud type of update rather than a "real" entry.

well this was a lovely weekend of movies:
on friday i saw dickie roberts. wasn't it tops at the box office last week or something like that? can i ask "why"? it sucked. i give this one a C. too flat and weak plotted. maybe if i'm feeling uncharitable, i'd even give it a D. or if i'm more charitable, a D+.
have you seen laurel canyon? i give it a B, as it was pretty good overall and i liked it. monsoon wedding was pretty good, in fact very good in some parts. but i cannot wholeheartedly endorse it with an A. that's not to say i didn't enjoy it, because i did, so i'll give it a B. maybe a B+. my main problem with it was that for all of its loveliness, richness and some subtle surprises, it was a bit too chaotic for my liking.
and as ridiculous as this sounds, i had a little bit of trouble following what was being said because of their heavy accents. (and i normally don't have trouble with most accents). in fact, if you know me well in real life, you know that i can do pretty good accent imitations when i'm joking around. i have the indian one down pat. but anyway, i've been told "monsoon wedding" was best on the big screen, and not as good in its VHS/DVD adaptation. oh well.
enough letter grades, b/c most importantly it was a fun weekend of movies. perhaps that's what i'll do next weekend if that monster hurricane isabel really does barrel into my state and bring torrents of rain.
